Description

Christmas Magic Layer Brownie Bars combine rich chocolate brownie base with layers of sweetened coconut, nuts, colorful holiday M&Ms, chocolate chips, and festive sprinkles, creating a delightful and festive dessert perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup salted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Layers and Toppings

  • ¾ cup nuts (optional, divided)
  • ¼ cup mini holiday M&Ms (divided)
  • ¾ cup regular Holiday M&Ms (divided)
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (divided)
  • 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk (from a 14 ounce can)
  • ¼ cup holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-inch baking pan with foil or parchment paper and lightly spray it with nonstick cooking spray to ensure easy removal afterwards.
  2. Melt Chocolate and Butter: Place 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips and ½ cup salted butter in a large microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until the mixture is melted and smooth.
  3. Mix Sugar and Eggs: Beat in 1 cup sugar, followed by ½ teaspoon vanilla, 2 large eggs, and 1 large egg yolk until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  4. Add Flour: Gently stir in 1 cup all-purpose flour until just combined, taking care not to overmix the batter.
  5. Bake Brownie Base: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. The brownies will jiggle slightly but the top should look set.
  6. Add Layers: Remove from oven and layer the toppings in order: sprinkle ¾ cup nuts (if using), half of the ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, half of the mini and regular holiday M&Ms combined, then all of the 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut evenly over the top. Pour ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk evenly across the layer, spreading gently to distribute.
  7. Add Final Toppings: Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips, remaining M&Ms, and ¼ cup holiday sprinkles evenly on top of the condensed milk layer.
  8. Bake Again: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set and just starting to brown. If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil to prevent burning.
  9. Cool and Cut: Allow the brownie bars to cool completely in the pan before carefully lifting out using the foil or parchment. Cut into 9 equal squares with a sharp knife.
  10. Store Properly: Store the cooled brownie bars in a tightly sealed container at room temperature for up to one week to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Use foil or parchment to line the pan to make removing the brownies easier.
  • Feel free to omit nuts for a nut-free version or substitute your favorite nuts.
  • If the top browns too fast, tent with foil to avoid over-browning.
  • Cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts and intact layers.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep the brownies moist and fresh for up to a week.
  • You can experiment with different holiday-themed candies to suit your festive preferences.
